About the Model
This 1/48 scale F-2A Buffalo Hobby Master model is a limited edition piece. All previous Midway models have sold out here at AimHigherJets.com.

On June 4 1942, while attacking a Japanese bomber that was approaching Midway VMF-221 F2A-3 pilot Captain William Humberd, USMC, was jumped by some Zeroes. He quickly put the Brewster into a dive to sea level and with the dive speed he out distanced his attackers. When Humberd had enough of a ead he turned the aircraft around and went head on with a single Zero. He opened fire with his guns and as he went flying past the Zero he saw it crash into the ocean. VMF-221 “the Fighting Falcons” had 13 of their 26 F2A-3s completely destroyed and 11 of the surviving planes were too damaged to fly. In 1943 they transitioned to the F4U Corsair and in December of the same year they were sent State-side for re-organization.

About the Brewster F-2A Buffalo

The Brewster F2A "Buffalo" was an American fighter aircraft which saw limited service during World War II. In 1939, the F2A became the first monoplane fighter aircraft used by the US Navy. In December 1941, it suffered severe losses with both British Commonwealth and Dutch air forces in South East Asia, for reasons unrelated to the basic design. It also saw action with US Marine Corps squadrons at the Battle of Midway. The F2A was derided by some American servicemen as a "flying coffin", due to poor construction and perceptions of its general performance. Despite this reputation, the F2A proved a potent weapon with the Finnish Air Force, against the Soviet Air Forces.
