About the C-21A
The C-21A is a military variant of the Learjet 35A, with room for eight passengers and 42 ft³ (1.26 m³) of cargo. All C-21As are equipped with EFIS. In addition to its normal role, the aircraft is capable of transporting litters during medical evacuations.
Delivery of the C-21A fleet began in April 1984 and was completed October 1985. Computer Sciences Corporation Applied Technology Division provides full contractor logistics support at seven worldwide locations.
There are 73 Air Force active duty aircraft, and four Air National Guard aircraft in the C-21A fleet. On April 1, 1997, all continental U.S.-based C-21As were realigned under Air Mobility Command, with the 375th Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, as the lead command. C-21As stationed outside the continental United States are assigned to the theater commanders. In 2006, the active duty fleet was reduced by half with only 20 active duty aircraft remaining in the United States. Additional aircraft are still based overseas at Ramstein AFB, Germany and Yakota AFB, Japan.
About the Unit
This C-21 is primarily flown by the 375th Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base. The wing has four primary missions. They support aeromedical evacuation within the United States, provide operational support airlift for government officials, offer direct security for our community and nation and provide support for host units -- making possible the command and control of the United States' entire military transportation effort.
