About the Model

This 1/72 scale A-10 model is made primarily of diecast metal construction with some plastic parts. It has extremely realistic paneling details as well as a canopy that opens and landing gear that can be displayed as either extended or retractedThe 511th TFS activated January 1, 1980 at RAF Bentwaters to the 81st TFW. Their nickname was � The Vultures � and received their A-10�s on the same date. They remained at Bentwaters until mid 1988 then relocated to the 10th TFW at RAF Alconbury. The 511th was the only USAFE squadron to deploy with the 354th TFW for Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm from December 1990 to June 1991. While there the 511th flew at least 1700 sorties. After June the 511th aircraft were sent to ANG units and to AMARC storage.

About the A-10 Warthog

The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft designed to provide air interdiction and close air support (CAS) of ground forces by attacking tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets. As a secondary mission, it provides airborne forward air control, guiding other aircraft against ground targets. It is the first US Air Force aircraft designed exclusively for CAS. The official nickname comes from the P-47 Thunderbolt of World War II, a plane that was particularly effective at the CAS mission. However, the A-10 is more commonly known as Warthog or simply Hog. In the USAF inventory, the same airframe is also designated OA-10 when used primarily in a forward air control role.
