| About the Model |
|
This 1/48 scale F-2A Buffalo Hobby Master model is a limited edition piece. Only 1,500 pieces will be made worldwide. Like all Hobby Master models, this piece comes with a highly detailed paint scheme, movable canopy, retractable gear, movable rudder and rolling wheels. It has so many movable features that it almost seems more like an RC model than a pre-built diecast display.
A shortage of Wright Cyclone engines forced the Dutch to supply Brewster with 24 used engines to go with the forty-eight new engines Brewster had. The planes produced with used 1100 hp engines were designated “C” and the new 1200 hp engine models were “D”. Lt. August G. Deibel was a member of the ML-KNIL, Royal Dutch East Indies Military Aviation. With 3 confirmed kills, himself shot down twice and wounded twice he received the Militaire Willemsorde (highest Dutch decoration, only given for extreme high bravery during wartime). |

About the Brewster F-2A Buffalo |
|
The Brewster F2A "Buffalo" was an American fighter aircraft which saw limited service during World War II. In 1939, the F2A became the first monoplane fighter aircraft used by the US Navy. In December 1941, it suffered severe losses with both British Commonwealth and Dutch air forces in South East Asia, for reasons unrelated to the basic design. It also saw action with US Marine Corps squadrons at the Battle of Midway. The F2A was derided by some American servicemen as a "flying coffin",[1] due to poor construction and perceptions of its general performance. Despite this reputation, the F2A proved a potent weapon with the Finnish Air Force, against the Soviet Air Forces. |
