About the Model
This 1/72 scale Bell P-39 Airacobra Hobby Master model features the paint scheme flown by the Soviet Union.  This particular model depicts the aircraft flown by Soviet ace Aleksandr Pokryshkin.

Aleksandr I. Pokryshkin was a leading Soviet ace with 59 kills of which 48 came flying a P-39. He applied his own methods of attacking instead of the methods set out by the military. The military methods left the aircraft vulnerable to ground fire and German fighters but eventually Pokryshkin’s methods were adopted as standard practice. Aleksandr was also the C/O of the 9th GFD (Guards Fighter Division) formerly the 216th Fighter Division. This group had none less than 28 aces with a minimum of 15 kills while flying the P-39.

Like all Hobby Master models, this piece comes with a highly detailed paint scheme, movable canopy, retractable gear, movable rudder and rolling wheels.  It has so many movable features that it almost seems more like an RC model than a pre-built diecast display.
About the Bell P-39 Airacobra

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was one of the principal American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II. Although its mid-engine placement was innovative, the P-39 design was handicapped by the lack of an efficient turbo-supercharger, limiting it to low-altitude work, although the type was used with great success by the Soviet Air Force. Together with the derivative P-63 Kingcobra, these aircraft would be the most successful mass-produced, fixed-wing aircraft manufactured by Bell.
